A ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT

Nobody is perfect and not even practice can make anyonethings perfect. And eEvery one of us has his own deficiencies. We all have our weaknesses and fears including e Even the smartest and most popular personalities have their own weaknesses and fears..

The good thing is that there is always a room for improvement-.  anA infinite chance to conquer yyour fears and overcome yyour weaknesses. You are given countless trials to improve ourselves. It doesn’t matter if you fail or you succeed. What’s important is that you’ve you tried, youyou did your best, and youyou’ve learned. Trying to improve ones self takes time. There may be ups and downs, highs and lows as youyou try to improve yourself. Sometimes, youyou might lose hope or think of giving up.  You might even develop a negative attitude and harbor negative thoughts. Just remember that it is all part of improvement. Surpassing  All this challenges hurdles in life makes youyou more stronger and  a better peoplerson. Then, you you’ll realize that youyou are improving.

Improving means learning. Learning is a continuous process. It does not stop in schools or in any institutions and organization youyou coame from. Learn from your experiences and from the experience of others. Take some advice, take a risk and grab every opportunity that comes. What you have learned, can never be stolen from you. And when in doubt, always think that there will always be a big room for improvement.

GENDER EQUALITY, OR GENDER SENSITIVITY

The gesture of chivalry, as we know, dates back from the Medieval Ages where men practiced becoming gentlemen. They knelt and gave flowers, opened the doors of buildings and carriages, pulled the chairs back, and sang serenades for the ladies who have caught their sight and their heart. This has been observed for centuries, by knights and paupers alike. Even in the today’s` setting, it never went out of fashion. As a matter of fact, this still gives the giggles and the feeling of importance in the minds of the modern ladies.
Moving farther back in history during the Biblical times, and even in the present times in some countries, the female gender of the human race was never given that importance. Women are more of a commodity rather than a human in the society’s perspective. They were seen as the bargaining chip, a pleasure glove, and worst, treated in a sub-humane manner.

Bullying

(Look sad and in pain) My stomach hurts and I have headaches every day. The girls are spreading rumors and telling secrets, and it just doesn’t feel right to me.
Is there something wrong with me? Or am I really what they say I am? Could I be a victim of bullying?
As you may have noticed my speech is about bullying – so let’s get started.
Have you ever been bullied? Has it happened to your peers or have you just seen or heard about it on TV? Many people have different opinions on what bullying is. Some say it is kicking or hitting someone, others say it’s when you say mean things or call someone names.
All of these things are correct, as they are different ways you can be bullied. However, they are not the official definition of bullying. Everyone has a different opinion, but the definition I follow is:
Anything that a person does on purpose to upset or hurt another person –(the victim).
The victim is the person that gets bullied.
To be honest, bullying is just like a disease because you don’t make it happen and it does not just go away overnight.
Bullying even makes you feel like you are sick or something is wrong with you!
This , however, isn’t true at all. It is not your fault if you get bullied.
Did you know that 900 thousand children get bullied everyday in Canada? Out of 5.2 million students!
That means that 1 out of 5 students get bullied everyday! And people say that Canadians are too nice to be bullies!
Many people are unaware of the bullying that happens around them. That just shows how bad it is.
Here are some myths and facts about bullying:
Myth number 1: “Bullying is just a stage, a normal part of life.” However, fact is – bullying is not a “normal” or socially acceptable behavior. We give bullies power by our acceptance of this behavior.
Myth number 2: “If I tell someone, it will just make it worse.” Fact is: Research shows that bullying will stop when adults in authority and peers get involved.
Myth number 3:”Just stand up for yourself and hit them back.” Fact however is: While there are some times when people can be forced to defend themselves, hitting back usually makes the bullying worse and increases the risk for serious physical harm.
Myth number 4: “Bullying is a school problem, the teachers should handle it.” Fact is: Bullying is a broader social problem that happens everywhere.
Myth number 5: “People are born bullies.” Fact is: Bullying is a learned behavior and behaviors can be changed.
Okay, you are probably wondering what the different types of bullying are? Statistics show that there are six different types of bullying: Physical, Verbal, Indirect, social Alienation., intimidation and last but not least Cyber Bullying.
Verbal Bullying is the most common because it is not as easily noticed as physical is. Talk about how horrible this is! Think if you were the target or the person that got bullied!
Bullies bully because it makes them feel better than everyone else! Also they do it because they have been bullied at some point in life and feel like they need revenge.
A bully can be a person that is big or someone small, it just depends on what type of bullying we are talking about.
Sometimes teenagers and older students bring guns to school to kill bully but end up injuring many others too.
Some people that have been bullied all their life decided to leave their old life because they don’t appreciate it and commit suicide. Suicide! That just shows how out- of- hand this can get, bullying is that serious!
You may think now – wow – how can you stop bullying when you can barely see it happening! I mean how are you supposed to put an end to it when it goes on 24/7? The best way for you to make a start is to talk to your friends and have a discussion in your class and make a set of rules to put an end to it. Then present the idea to your whole school. The next step is to create an Anti-Bullying team so you can end bullying at your school.
Bullying is so bad that it can end up with dying and killing others which shows exactly how serious and bad this is!

Remember everything I have told you today and you will not be a bully or not be afraid to stand up for yourself! Just be strong, keep your head up high and do your best to stop bullying once and for all! Remember, school Bullying is EVERYONES business! Thank you for listening and Good Bye!

Leader’s Perspective

Leadership is the art of influencing others in order to accomplish the mission. The ability to influence is one of the essential skills of a leader. It’s more art than science. Hence, it doesn’t follow any rules or theories. Though it’s tough to perform, the bottom line is influence matters.
According to Discovery Learning Inc., there were five styles of influencing the asserting, convincing, negotiating, bridging and inspiring. Each of these styles is effective depending upon the people involved and the situation. In order to increase influence, he must identify first his influencing style for. Does he assert, convince, negotiate, bridge or inspire? Understanding your own inclination is a good way to start. Then, practice. Begin with small steps, and then improve those approaches.
In our class, NOCC CL-25, we were convened having different personalities from different walks of life. Each day we are given the opportunity to lead the class being the marcher of the day. Later, we realize that everyday we unknowingly leading each other. Giving caution is an instrument to influence others. Influencing through giving caution will depend on how it was given. Credibility is a must. Smart leaders know what they know and more essentially they know what they do not know. Pretending you know something you know nothing at all weakens credibility. It must also be sustained through action to prove your knowledge. Even you know something but you do not perform it, implies that you know nothing. For example, OC “A” cautioned OC “B” to avoid slouching because it isn’t nice to see. OC “B” didn’t react instead he reasoned that even OC “A” is slouching.  This happens because OC “A” drops credibility. To avoid this to occur, a leader must set the example. He shall at always shows what is the standard before relaying it to others. This is a simple way on how to influence others. There are lots of scenarios that challenge the leadership style of a leader. The best thing to do is to enhance credibility.

Indeed, leading men is not an easy task. Sometimes, a leader needs to cut through arguments while finding solutions on such problems encountered. He may have good intentions, but still it is not enough to please everyone. And even how democratic he is, he will not be able to convince everyone. In fact, there will be those who will surely oppose. Yet, a leader is obliged to give his final decision. As quoted by Gen. Douglas MacArthur, “A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others.” Well, that’s the challenge of being a leader. He shall do what is right even if he’ll be criticized by others.
